Top 5 Underrated Comedy TV Shows of All Time

Welcome comedy fans and anyone needing a distraction. This is my top 5 underrated comedy television shows of all time list.

I want to stress “my” because I’m not THAT old. Nor have I have seen everything. So these should be titled “Top 5 ___ Jay has seen”, but that’s weird.

You can find all kinds of lists in our LISTRactions section.

Feel free to leave any comments or a whole list of your own!

#5: The League

This might have something to do with me loving fantasy football. But it’s not JUST about that, more a group of friends messing with each other ALL the time.

The FX semi-improvised comedy series was created by Jeff & Jackie Schaffer. Starring Mark David Duplass, Nick Kroll, Paul Scheer, Stephen Rannazzisi and Katie Aselton.

Also, Jason Mantzoukas played the scene-stealing Rafi! He was Ruxin’s wife’s deranged, obnoxious, lunatic brother. It’s probably worth checking out JUST for his character.

All 7 seasons are available now on Hulu.

#4: Party Down

The chemistry and comedy skill power among the cast was off the charts with this one. It starred Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Ken Marino, Martin Starr, Lizzy Caplan and others. Each brought their own unique quirks to the table, allowing for endless comedic possibilities.

The show follows the dysfunctional crew of “Party Down Catering” a group of hopefuls who are always just one party away from making it big in Hollywood.

“Party Down” is available on Hulu, Starz and Roku.

#3: It's Garry Shandling's Show

Step backstage and into the hilarious, offbeat world of Garry Shandling in this one-of-a-kind sitcom! “It's Garry Shandling's Show” revolutionized the traditional sitcom, forcing the audience to confront the boundaries of reality.

The series was created by the legendary Garry Shandling and Alan Zweibel. Also starring Molly Cheek, Michael Tucci, and Scott Nemes. The show received five CableACE Awards and four Primetime Emmy Award nominations.

Now available on Prime Video and Apple TV.

#2: Freaks and Geeks

The amount of talent involved with this series was incredible. “Freaks and Geeks” was created by Paul Feig and Judd Apatow. It starred James Franco, Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, and Linda Cardellini (among others).

The story takes place in 1980s suburban Michigan, where the halls of William McKinley High School are divided into two distinct tribes….The Freaks and the Geeks!

The series is available on Hulu, Amazon Prime & Paramount+

#1: Eastbound and Down

I’m always shocked when I find out someone I know, hasn’t seen this. Danny McBride’s Kenny Powers is a mf-ing force of nature! According to Kenny, myself and many fans across the world.

The story follows Kenny Powers, the foul-mouthed, washed-up ex-major league pitcher. Kenny takes fans on an uproarious journey as he attempts to revive his career and fulfill his dreams.

“Eastbound and Down” was created by McBride and Ben Best.

All seasons are available to watch on Max, Hulu and elsewhere!
